I'm trying to figure out where to focus my time.GIMP (development version) for Unix-like systems I don't have any good idea of how a professional with lots of experience with GIMP feels about the differences and what's really important for a pro and how they stack up. I engage a bit with the Open Source community, and I've never gotten that impression from people who casually use GIMP. But are there any significant reasons why a pro would use PS? And I know I may be asking the wrong crowd here (if one is trying to get an unbiased answer) but I at this point is GIMP actually more powerful and capable than PS? So where I'm going with all this is that I know GIMP markets more to enthusiasts and hobbyists rather than pros. I could not find this exact feature at all in Adobe, and what was there was obtuse. I have a way of straightening a scan by doing an arbitrary rotation in GIMP, by way of dropping down a straightline on one end of the edge of the print and repositioning the centerpoint of the rotation to match. Adobe does tend to hide things behind a really cumbersome UI, at least from my perspective. Eventually I came to realize a lot of the features I'd come to know from GIMP simply aren't present in Adobe. My first thought was just that the UI was very unfamiliar, I felt very lost. I've gotten further along in my professional work and I got this restoration order that's really pushing my personal limits as far as skills go. I have done some professional work, but largely the same, either basic photo editing or lightweight restoration. Most of this time I've been doing basic photo editing and occasionally some lightweight restoration for personal or family purposes. I've been quite happy with it and pleased with the ongoing development. I've been using GIMP for over a decade at this point, almost 2.
